CONGRATULATIONS  DAVE NETZER DICKENSON, ND
HARMON ROCKET II NUMBER #119
TAKES FIRST FLIGHT  July 2006

I now have about 13 hrs. on the plane and it is running great. I love the power! You were right. The plane tracks straight on take off with very little pull to the left. And I really like the gear. Even with a less then great landing there is no bounce back on the gear at all. At 21inches and 2300 rpm I am indicating 180 mph airspeed. I think that is about 55% power. I have not yet turned it loose to see what it will do. It flies like a typical RV but does have a faster roll rate then my RV6 had. I come over the numbers at 100mph indicated which gives me abit of float but gives me time to settle in for a nice 3 point landing. With the stick all the way back the plane sets itself up for the perfect 3 point attitude. Having built and flown an RV6 for almost 500 hrs. this plane had no surprises at all except alot more power. I loved my RV6 but this plane takes it to the next level. Thanks for all your help. The only thing left on the plane is to install graphics on the wings and fuselage and install a autopilot. Both of these will get done this winter when it too cold to fly here in North Dakota. Great plane! Dave Netzer

From Rob Mokry
Took the Rocket out to test the Truetrak autopilot and flew with some
friends up to Napa, Ca yesterday.
One was driving a Baron and the other a Cheyenne.
Nice big rare steak at Jonsey's for lunch and time for departure.

The Baron departed first on 18R.  The Cheyenne was cleared 18R position and hold.  We were cleared 18L position and hold.
The Cheyenne was released on 18R.  We were released 18L

Shortly afterward, (Napa Tower), "Cheyenne NXYZ, Caution departing Experimental on parallel runway"

(Cheyenne NXYZ), "Napa Tower, Experimental no factor, as he has accelerated past us already"

We also had about 2,000' on him.

Something tells me the Cheyenne driver isn't telling this story this
morning.....

Thanks John Harmon!

HARMON ROCKET NUMBER 111  TAKES FLIGHT   JOHN MEYERS   GOLDEN, CO  80401

I made my first flight Mother's Day 2005 and it still freaks me out when I shove the throttle in with all that acceleration.  John has done an outstanding job I think in this design.

Congratulations and have fun.

John,
I know you remember Kevin Armstrong but I am also forwarding this to
others.  Kevin lives in Cambridge , England and when I was still flying to
London, I use to ride the train up to Cambridge and visit him.  He had
bought an RV-4 here in Bakersfield and had it shipped to the UK.  It was the
first to ever get to the UK.  When Kevin was here in Bakersfield, I took him
for a ride in my Rocket and he decided he needed one!  It has taken him many
years to complete but as you can see, it came out great!
Ted

Mike Manning's Harmon Rocket II

Hi Guys,
An old Navy buddy of mine has had a beautiful II for a number of years which he and a mutual friend built.  ( I believe the construction was done in Concord, CA. ) Now he's got it up in Sandy, Oregon.  It's a kick to fly!!  Here's a few pictures of it - none of which do it justice.

Thanks,
Dean Koehler

LEONARD i.e. The Animal

Leonard was started Dec.2000. He is the 4th homebuilt for me. It took a little over 2 years to built. He is a pure Harmon Rocket kit with very few modifications. Empty weight came to 1185 lbs. He has Gamin 430 gps and 327 transponder. Full vacuum gauges. The heart of the plane is monitored by an IK2000 after some minor problems at first the unit is now working wonderful. The unusual paint scheme was my idea with Jabbs Custom Paint making it come to life. The aircraft is a dream to fly. The power plant is a stock O540E4B5 converted to an IO540 stock hp is 260. Lots of fuel on full power take off 26 gph but backed off to stay with some of my 180 hp Constant speed RV-6 buddies 9.5gph at 180 mph indicated 2200rpm and 17inches 7500ft. The only bragging to do is Hey it’s a Rocket what do you expect. My hat is off to John Harmon for such a wonderful aircraft. Thanks John

Getting Ready !

That's my grandson looking for the 'start switch'. Reno Bryan Colburn ..
w/a name like that he'll need to be a fighter pilot, or a bull rider --- or both.
Jack said his Rocket has 40+ hours on it now.  Built at Shafter.
Here's Jack's comments on his flight to Oshkosh 2002

220MM did a round-about trip to Oshkosh w/several stops to see family & friends. Flew 4000+ nautical miles in 22.8 hrs tach time. Burned 272 gals of fuel. Airplane weight is 1315# + 285# for my Captain & I + 100# of 'stuff'. We have the big tanks so we had 55+ gallons of fuel on all take-offs. Longest roll was about 1200 ft at Canyon City, Colorado. It's 5400+feet & the temp was 86f.

Cruise portion at pressure altitudes of 10,500-13,500 (density altitude's were 2-3000 feet higher) we used 20MAP/2300R's. Gave us 155KIAS w/true at 190K+/-. Vision MicroSystem said 10.5 gals/hr.  If you push the RPM up to 2400 you will get about another inch of MAP & another 7-8 knots true ----- AND 13 gals/hr ........!!

Great Trip, w/a Great Airplane. By-the-by AirVenture was overwhelming ........ but very happy w/the two Grand Champion Award!!

Below are photos  sent by Tom Martin.... Thanks Tom

I live in St.Thomas, Ontario, Canada CYQS.  I have a farm and a grass
runway and visitors are welcome.  I am flying the blue rocket now and it has
around 90 hours of total time.  The red rocket now belongs to Bill Denney of
Prescott Arizona.    Tom

  Thanks Harry !

266hp is a joy to fly and lands real nice. Cruise is about 218 mph at
8500ft 11 gph however I am still in process of tweaking so I really
haven't put out any numbers yet so when I'm done tweaking I'll let you know.
